QUALITY TERMS
ISO 9001:2015 standard – is an industry-recognized standard applicable to various industries; that requires a quality management system which documents processes, procedures, and responsibilities for achieving quality policies and objectives.
Quality Management System – a formal system that helps coordinate and direct an organization’s activities to meet customer and regulatory requirements and improve its effectiveness and efficiency on a continuous basis.
Quality Policy – a summary statement emphasizing the organization’s goals and objectives.
Quality Objective – a goal set for key process performance, such as on-time delivery, product acceptance, etc.
AS9100 standard – is an industry-recognized standard for quality assurance and risk management for those organizations involved with the design, development, production, installation and servicing in the Aviation Space and Defense (ASD) sector.
AS9120 standard – is an industry-recognized standard for quality assurance and risk management for those organizations involved with the distribution of products and services in the Aviation Space and Defense (ASD) sector.
Management Review – meetings usually conducted by the Director of Quality with the management team to discuss current quality objective goals and performance, trend analysis, and other topics required per the AS9100 standard. These meeting should be conducted on a consistent basis to monitor performance versus quality requirements and objectives.
Contracts – purchase orders provided by the customer.
Contract Review – a process performed to review contracts in its entirety to verify all applicable requirements can be met prior to approving acceptance of the contract.
Approved Supplier List (ASL) [aka Approved Vendor List (AVL)] – a list maintained usually by the purchasing personnel, to approve suppliers or vendors before issuing a purchase order and maintenance of approvals by evaluating suppliers at periodic intervals.
Purchase Order – a contract issued to a supplier that specifies details of products or services needed that include all specifications and requirements that must be met in order to provide products or services.
Job Traveler (or Work Order) – the main document used during production to provide traceability records of the entire manufacturing process, including outside processes.
Internal Audits – these audits are performed by a certified Internal Auditor to document and evaluate the current performance of the organization against industry standards, such as ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards.
Certified Internal Auditor – a person who has received internal audit training on specified standards.
Corrective Action – an action taken to correct a non-conforming product or a non-conformance to the quality management system, AS9100 standards, or customer requirements.
Preventive Action – an action taken to prevent a non-conformance from occurring.
